Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ? The green form tends to perform better in full all day sun than the variegated which burns more easily especially in hot dry sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos.

Myolensis triple and the (now infamous) foxy lady… Last year I added three Beccariophoenix alfredii, which I’m really liking so far due to their hardiness, and some Areca palms. I caught the “Palm tree bug” a few years ago when my wife and I wanted to add some planters to our yard, and I’ve been turned into a palm-tree nerd, as i call myself, ever since. So today is my 24 hour soak, I added some super thrive to the water at 1 tsp per gallon and am hoping that my plant drinks it up! Both are superbly grown, just needs to planted to adapt to So Cal conditions and watering.

I was advised by the seller to apply a kelp extract/ water mix, then heavy water every other day, with superthrive/ water every five days. I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth (I wouldn’t be concerned with that at this point, except that the leaf has now snapped) Foxyladies hold the variegation when mature.

Hello, I’m a novice collector and bought a 15 gallon foxy lady from a seller in Temecula, CA about 2 and a half weeks ago. In fact, about all the foxyladies that exhibited extreme variegation did not survive. Foxtails that I’ve grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Apparently when the greenies are much older they can also put out the odd variegated leaf. I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I’m just curious if they’ll all keep this as adults

I have 6 mature foxy ladies and all but 2 are variegated. That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid. Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail. I do not grow foxtails, so there could not be a mix up there. I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe foxy gold casino it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile? Yeah I had one sprout a while back but had some irrigation issues to my potted plants in my absence and it ended up drying out and dying.

F1 vs f2 foxy lady

Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo There is full green and mostly green. Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I saw a mature green form produce some variation. Did not notice the variegation earlier but as Jim pointed out, on the lower leaf there it is. Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well. If anyone can find a pic of a small full green please post to show the difference thank you

There are many other wonderful palms to grow where you are. There are more palms than Foxy Lady. As Dean says, if it doesn’t budge after a week or two of this shock, you may have a dead palm and one day the crownshaft will just collapse on you along with any green material that remains.

Regular ‘ol green specimens always look flawless. In all the years i have observed it, fronds on the variegated spec. The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. I’d suggest spending sometime at Kopsick Palmatium in St. Pete. So why does it seem the green is the better choice ?

  • This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse.
  • Regular ‘ol green specimens always look flawless.
  • It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already.
  • They seem to have an overall hard time surviving.
  • 300+ palms, 90+ species in the ground
  • FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos.

Never noticed seed on the variegated Foxy located in another part of the collection. @96720 Taking a look at your foxy lady in the pic. I have an f2 foxy lady I might be interested in letting go if you are interested I can come pick up that palm at your convenience, deliver you $200 cash, plus the 3 Pseudophoenix seedlings in the pic if you would be interested in selling. I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!!
For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form. Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it’s rootball watered. A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months. Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor.

  • Going to a spot in the Los Angeles area
  • There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often.
  • This is a holy grail palm for many of us PTers.
  • Was it grown from a seed made by nature or by manual cross pollination?
  • @here does anyone have Foxy Lady seed they would like to sell?
  • It’s a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time.

I have some flowering/fruiting foxtails near an adonidia doing the same. I have a couple of completely green ones in my yard and there isn’t a bit of variegation I think it’s better classifies as mostly green or mostly variegated that’s my conclusion
Well mine has a sparse seed set that dropped today. If this one produces seed, you should be able to tell if they have a chance.. While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i’d collect were empty or basically liquid when opened.
